Take two fingers and press them against your neck. Do you feel that?

*Our hearts are the root of our life and actions.

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard you heart, for it is the well spring of life”

Your heart is so important, what is in your heart motivates you to act in certain ways. Post a heart on the wall

God has put certain characteristics in each of your hearts.

Heart activity: hearts filled with a characteristic that people take turns opening and explaining. Place on the wall.

  2. Joy: The deepest feeling of happiness one can feel that is not dependent on a situation, “In your presence there is fullness of joy” Psalm 16:11

      2. Siblings, one is cleaning and the other is continuously bothering them to come and play with them
      3. Kindness: Showing love and compassion towards others. “And you be kind to one another, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32

Break 1, Clothes Pins

  1. Self-Control: the ability to restrict yourself from certain actions. “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control” 2 Timothy 1:7
    1. You have just eaten a huge dinner and dessert of cake. You are so full but the cake was so delicious and you want another piece but you know if you do you’ll get sick. A friend offers the other piece and you must practice self-control.
    2. Someone has just said something mean about you and you need to have self-control not to yell or fight back.
    3. Wisdom: knowing good and bad and right and wrong and acting on that knowledge. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who’s gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given”
      1. Choices, girls pick which is wiser:

i.     It is late and you are walking home because the buses stopped running and you don’t have money for a taxi. You can either go one way that is not the safest but us shorter or the other way which is longer but well lit and safe. Which way?

ii.     You just finished cooking some chicken and it smells delicious. Is it wise to eat it right after it has finished cooking or wait until it cools down?

  1. Courage: the ability to encounter danger and hard times without fear. “With good courage we say, ‘the Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6
    1. Your friend is doing something and you know that it is wrong but are nervous to tell them.

i.     Gossip

ii.     One person picking on another and someone stands up and says that it is wrong.

  1. Humility: Putting away all pride in one’s self. “Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up” James 4:10
    1. You and your sister have the choice of a dessert. There is a big piece and a small piece. You choose to give the big piece to the sister.

These are things God has put on our hearts and they should motivate our actions. We should be patient with other people, we should show love and kindness to others, we should be faithful to others, we should show courage and humility, we should have self-control. And it is when these characteristics become so a part of who you are that they are seen in your actions that we become virtuous.

In God’s word he says that a virtuous woman is worth so much! What is this? (Picture of a ruby) It is a jewel that is so expensive! A Ruby is beautiful and valuable and worth so much! But as much value as it does have a virtuous woman is worth so much more that that! A virtuous woman is much more beautiful, she is much more valuable, and her worth is much more than Rubies.

Proverbs 31:10 “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”

Lunch (Give them the dessert at lunch but they can’t eat it until the activities are over)

2:15-3:00-2nd half of activities

Humility: washing each other’s feet. Explain why this is being humble. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. Imaging being back in Jesus’ time. They wore sandals and walked everywhere, no cars, no taxis, no buses. Their feet would have been so dirty. Now, Jesus was special, right? He is better than us. He has never sinned. He is God’s son. He deserves so much more than each of us but Jesus put away his selfishness and got down and washed his disciples feet.

Virtues overflowing, bracelet

2 Peter 1:5-7 “…Make every effort to add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness, and to godliness, kindness, and to kindness, love”

We should all strive to be virtuous and increase it in our faith until it overflows into every part of our life!

Cup of water. Each paperclip is us practicing those characteristics. Add more and keep growing in them! You can’t just be humble one time to be a virtuous woman, your actions must continually be pure and worthy of praise to be virtuous.
